Our Story
Rug Import is a family owned and operated business founded by Amir Pouya.Rug Import was Amir’s dream,which developed while he traveled as a child with his father and grandfather to bazaars and villages watching handmade rugs being crafted by embroiderers whose skills have been passed down from generation to generation. These experiences have been instilled in Amir. After studying mechanical engineering at the University of Connecticut in 1984, Amir realized his love of design, texture and quality had stayed with him since his childhood days. Joining the family business at a young age, Amir has worked in the retail rug industry for over 40 years. In that time he’s had the pleasure of placing his beautiful masterpieces in homes across the United States. Learning what is required to make rugs with such detail and brilliance. These characteristics are what makes each rug a masterpiece. Amir has built lasting relationships with rug masters and weavers across the globe. From Persia to Istanbul to India to Tibet and many more. He has rug manufacturers that provide luxury textiles for unique designs that are both cutting edge and traditional. Having studied mechanical engineering in college, Amir invented and patented a machine to display and flip the area rugs. To pursue building his machine, Amir started to work with Moore’s corporation in Elkhart, IN in 1996. He opened his new store in Mishawaka in 1998 and has served Chicago through the Merchandise Mart for two decades.
Amir’s commitment to customer satisfaction and quality manufacturing has led him to work alongside notable clients like Notre Dame University, Saint Mary’s College, Ruthmere Museum, and many others. Now he spends his time sharing his passion and devotion of the art, design, and texture found in his beautiful hand-woven rugs. Amir is dedicated to offering the best service along with his knowledge and expertise.
